FHIA-01 Goldfinger blooming

I'll update the thread as the bunch progresses, but I am happy to announce the arrival of my FHIA-01 Goldfinger flag leaf!

That's a small hill behind the plant, it's hard to tell from the photo. The two plants behind it are pups that were cut and moved back to form a row, each about three feet from the previous.

This was a TC, it's about two years old now.
This was the plant about a year ago (I have since removed the ficus):

Yessss!

Way cool. Beautiful. Looking forward to pictures of the fruit. I have high hopes for mine this year. I was able to get six pups off of the first Goldfinger I bought. Planted five and gave away one. Wish us luck. They are all growing fast.

Thanks for the kind words everybody!

Kenzie, I was able to get about as many pups off of mine before it started blooming. You sound like you're in the final stretch with yours, too. Luck!

BGreen - come on down! I got a vacant place you can rent out, it's got a huge yard and was just remodeled! lol

Jarred, could you post a pic showing the whole plant and maybe get your dog in there again for size comparison?

Just checked on it again... it's totally horizontal now.
Tomorrow by the end of the day it should be hanging downwards.

Is it really true that Goldfinger produces a second flower? According to the patent information a second flower will come in about a half a year after first flowering.

Not what I experienced, the stalk dies and the pups take over.
That pretty much goes for any banana.

So how much space should I allocate for a goldfinger plant?

Here's a guide I wrote awhile for folks in our climate. It answers your question, and more: Banana Cultivation In Non-Tropical Climates
