![]() What I don't get is the FHIA-18 is the same, but clearly not the same plant. How can it be different with the same parents?

![]() Got any siblings? Just like other life forms two parents don't produce offspring that's identical unless a fertilized egg splits resulting in identical twins, tripplets, etc.

![]() The seeds that they received from the crossing were not the same. There were probably 100ʻs of offspring, but the seeds of those two showed promise.

![]() That I understand, but I was thinking in terms of being clones of each other. Like a DB is basically a clone of other DBs out there. So I guess when they're getting the pollen from any one, it's basically getting a random mix of 50% of that types DNA. I know next to nothing about plant breeding, and have only read summaries of how bananas are bred. So I guess I was thinking a banana cultivar is more like a fertilized egg, and that it would be the same no matter how many times it splits.

![]() As the others said, FHIA-18 and FHIA-01 are siblings from the same mating (cross), but from different seeds that contained DNA from different pollen and different ova, and so represent a different combination of genes. They are not clones.
