Default A Few Questions About Caligold.

So I hear they are one of the most cold hardy varieties. Is that true? How does it compare with Basjoo? Is Caligold a dessert variety or ornamental? Lastly are they easy to find at online nursery websites?

They are an edible/dessert/cooking variety that is not as hardy as the Basjoo, not hardy enough for your zone unless you bring them indoors, and cannot be found at nurseries. At least, I'd never trust a nursery to sell me the real thing. If you want something like California Gold at a cheaper price and easier to find, I'd suggest Orinoco or Dwarf Orinoco as said before, but again they're not as hardy as the Basjoo.

You can indeed find them from members on this forum though. I have one that I got from member "Bigbananaboy." - And I definitely trust him in selling me the real deal, and so far, it's growing like I'd expect it to. No flower yet but I'm patient. So if you're growing it in a greenhouse or indoors, I would indeed say it's a great variety as it is certainly a "dwarf" type, usually not growing any taller than 6 feet from what I've seen online.
