I'm about the plant some large pups in the ground. How soon can I start fertilizing them?

I would not start fertilizing until plant are growing full speed (a new leaf every 5-8 day) no need to push it too much....IMHO

Re: Fertilizing

If they were well rooted in a pot, you can fertilize now. If they were recently separated from the mother corm, then wait till they have good, vigorous growth, indcating that they have settled in and have good new roots.

Re: Fertilizing

If your using organic food such as composted Chicken or Steer manure, bone meal, feather meal, cotton seed meal, worm castings, green sand, kelp, compost etc etc, you can add as much to the soil as you want and the sooner you do the sooner it will break down and start feeding the plants with no harm at all to the pups. You can also make an organic tea to foliar or root feed. If you plan to use a Chemical fertilizer such as Miracle Grow you should wait for the roots to develop before the first application.

Re: Fertilizing

There are so many organic plant foods that I didn't mention like Bat Guano! I try to grow "Veganic" when possible. This is a term coined by a friend several years ago as a standard of growing that includes workers rights, using only organic plant matter for composting, no genetically modified products, etc, etc. This was done in reaction to the government f-ing the word and the certification for "Organic" when used on the labeling for human or animal food.

Ya, I guess you can say I like my food organic in the true sense, not the new chemical corporation and government friendly, scratch my back I'll scratch yours sense. ;)
