Fertilizer question

I have yet to fertilize any of my banana plants. I have on hand, Miracle-Gro for tomatoes (18-18-21) and palm food (12-4-8). Are either of these okay to use? Thanks!

Go for the Miracle-Gro for tomatoes. Bananas need more K than N. Use the other one for palm, citruses or avocadoes. When Fall comes, don't apply any more fertilizer until mid spring to minimize root rot.

Another question

Should I spray it directly on the plants, or apply on the ground?

Thanks!

Prepare as directed on the label and apply as a liquid drench for long term results (a few weeks with soluble fertilizer).

Thanks! :)

Bananas can be fertilized weekly. I usually use double the rate per month than that of citruses, then divide by 4, and use that amount for weekly rate, dpends actually on the clump size and total diameters of all pups and mature plants on a clump. It is better to fertilize weekly into the soil, drenched as suggested by Marc, than to apply monthly for the same total amount. Stop fertilizing during the Fall, except if you don't have a Fall season similar to ours.
