I am trying to get a Musa Ingens. The person is from overseas and has suggested faxing my credit card details to the wholesaler who sell the musas.
I feel a uneasy about the transaction, as I don't know whether the faxed details of my credit card could be used for other transactions as well without my knowledge. I wish some input on this, at your earliest. thank you all very much.

DONT DO IT! you could end up buying big ben, and not even knowing it. my opinion, see if you cant find someone you know or maybe a gh. that would take a check or a money order. faxing credit card info is BAD JU-JU!

PayPal is ideal for this type of purchase. It has international acceptance and you are protected.
If they don't take PayPal but take Credit Cards stay away from them. Allen

Gotta agree with MsKitty... Maybe suggest PayPal to them and there shouldn't be a problem. No problem for them either if they plan on selling over the internet. Actually it would enable them to do more business that way and everyone, including them, would be safer...

I can tell you right now that there is a 99.99% chance that there is no banana plant that this "seller" is going to sell you. I'll bet that they are from Africa, right? Specifically Cameroon? Nothing but scammers sitting around in internet cafes, waiting for a sucker to give them some money. Whatever the situation, it doesn't sound legitimate to me. There are only a small handful of Musa ingens plants in cultivation in the entire world, outside of Papua New Guinea, so don't fall for it.

Don't fall for this one. PayPal is perfect for this as others suggested. If they don't want to work with you, you don't want to buy from them. DO NOT SEND ANY INFO TO THEM.

Hello
I believe most of you have heared of me by now. I am Christian from Bananaswap. In the past I managed to get Musa ingens seeds from Papua New Guinea, and I am one of the few lucky ones with Musa ingens in cultivation. Seeing this thread about paying people abroad (and particularly by creadit cards), I could not but share my own experiences with you. I got two batches of seeds from somebody I contacted in PNG. Things where very complicated to work out, and the second time there were things not quite right neither - like there were different banana seeds in the pack, but that person would still claim they are Musa ingens. I am not complaining too much about this part of the transaction yet. What really killed it all was what happened after that. I got together with a friend of mine to buy some common palm seeds from PNG. Those seeds were rarely available here, so we thought it is a good idea. This time, because my friend was commercially involved, the order total was far higher. My friend transfered the money per international bank transfer, and then we nevere saw any seeds! So you see that even people who might seem to co-operate with you a couple of times without problems still might take advantage of you at a later stage. That is certainly a lesson learned for me. My friend lost in the magnitude of $1000 without any way of recovering them. I got away lightly, as I only wanted a few seeds for myself. I still feel guilty about my friend's losses, as I still think it was 'my' contact, and it was me who got him involved in the 'deal'. I would also like to say a few words about obtaining Musa ingens. I have noticed many people being very very interested in this plant, and this makes me happy as I do love this plant a lot myself. Unfortunatley the germiantion rate from the seeds which many of you have been trying has been devastatingly low - this is very true for myself as well. I can tell you that it is not due to lack of freshness, as I know when the seeds have been harvested and shipped. It is also not due to lack of viability, as cut-tests on the seeds revealed life embryo and existing endosperm. The only conclusion I can draw from this is that M. ingens seeds are either germinating only after long periods of dormancy, or nobody so far has managed to find the correct conditions to make them sprout. Obviously, because there is such a great interest in this plant, people are trying to obtain seeds and plants from various 'sources', like me in the past. I know the difficulties, time and financial risks involved in this. So I would like to let you know that a specific commercial organisation intends to make Musa ingens plants available in the future. The only thing needed from your side is some patience, as it will be a few more months. The only reason why I am mentioning this here is to hopefully prevent some anxiety and possible financial loss for people who are trying to obtain this plant through ‘uncertain’ channels. I hope this helps. Christian |

Christian, I'm really glad you weighed in here. The chances of somebody selling genuine Musa ingens plants from anywhere in the world right now are slim to none, and slim just left town. Heck, like you pointed out, it is almost impossible to acquire seeds! I would advise again to shopgirl to completely abandon this transaction before she gets taken for more money than she wants to.
Is the organization that is going to make M. ingens available on your side of the pond or mine? |

I would never send someone a copy of my credit card, but paypal is no guarantee either. I had a friend use paypay he ended up being scammed and paypay wouldn't hold up their end of the agreement and paypal tried to not refund the money.

coming back to musa ingens seeds , Mr samson yuimb who manages the website http://www.geocities.com/skyfdn/ and offers to trade this seeds seems to be a serious guy (try a seach on google with his name) . Its really a pity that he doesnt trade them on ebay or via our usual banana seeds suppliers .... sure he must have many other more important things to do.

Carmensol,
How much did the seller want? It all depends, if it was a large quantity of $, the seller would deal with you for a long time, even if you were machine-gunning questions; however, if it was over 15 or 20$ I think the seller would ask for the money and if there was any fuss, just give up because he knows he can make bigger money elsewhere... This is all in the case that it is a spammer of course...:2687: |
