Exporting bananas from Fiji in 1919

I just happened upon this really interesting video about the export banana industry in Fiji in 1919, some really neat historical footage. It looks like they are showing 'Dwarf Cavendish' in the field shots, but 'Gros Michel' bunches in the container ship shots, interesting! Enjoy!

What's really amazing to me as an actor, is the quality of this video, and the fact that it was shot with what appears to be a camera with an electric motor (unless someone digitally altered the speed).

Any idea what he is spraying at 2:35? Maybe diatomaceous earth? might be a good pest control method.
