Ensete Ventricosum Problem
 

Hi everyone, haven't posted in a long time. I have a question for the experts.
After overwintering my Ensete in the basement under lights, it was opening a new leaf weekly. All of a sudden it started to die. Psuedostem started rotting at the base. It is now dead. I have not removed it from the pot yet just in case pups come up. Anyone know what could have caused this? Did it simply end its life cycle. Should stem be cut in the hopes of new pups.
I also had a dwarf musa that died and sent up two pups. I seperated them and they are now growing in 5 inch pots are doing great and producing new leaf weekly. Also lost my Siam Ruby plants over the winter. Dwarfs were the only survivors. I will just have to keep trying, Time to hit the garden ctrs again. I'm just a glutton for punishment.
Any advise would be appreciated.

Your Ensete will not produce pups. If there is any life left in the corm at all you may see some new plants arrise from there at some point, but they do not produce pups like the Musas do. I'd hold off on pitching the Siam Ruby if I were you. I had one die back and look like it was a goner but it is now putting out new growth. Water them it lightly once, expose them to some light and warmth and wait. You may be surprised at the results.
