Default Ensete Maurellii

I have a question about this banana....I got one last fall from Northern Tropics and its supposed to love sun....I have mine in afternoon sun and it seems as the sun may be burnning it, when a new leaf comes out it is dead about the first 3-4 inches.....is this the sun or something else, is this a problem with any body else?? also it is only about 31/2' tall...are they a slow grower?
Thanks,
Ray

All of my Banana's that are outside are doing the same in this abnormal heat wave. My Eneste is under a pergola, and even there the new leaf is getting burnt. Plant as a whole is doing fine still. Not sure if there is anything you can do about it unless you can move them to a more shaded location if they are in pots.

Where do you live and are you fertilizing it?

Mine has seen upper 90s to 100 and is not burning.
Some of the leaves look papery in the heat though....
but are in good health.

Just north of Omaha. Yes, fertilize it once a week with Miracle Grow along with Superthrive vitamins.

MG can seriously burn the leaves-used full strength-
I wouldn't use it anymore than half strength.

I have toned it down, starting today. We've had so much moisture and humidity that none of the plants ever seem to dry out.

i feel for all having such extreme temps..seems like not that long
ago and many of us were complaining of the chilly start of summer
guess we should be careful what we wish for..
we had it HOT last week.. temps in 90sF now..i dont mind that..
its when it gets in 100+F gets uncomfortable..
my ensetes are doing great.. they sure love this warmth!!!
my biggest glaucum is getting huge!!! yea.. seems my biggest maurelli
is taking its time.. bigger and bigger leaves..so im feeling good about
it.. we will (hopefully) have 2 more months of good summer..
they should get really big!!!!
