Drummer Ensete glaucum pupping?

I have two ensete glaucums that are putting out pups and they're only 11 months old. Can that be? I thought they only propogated through seeds.

Did you start this E. glaucum from seed, or was it a plant when you acquired it? If you started it from seed, is it possible that a couple more seeds were in the planting mix when you transplanted? Only thing I can think of on what has happened.... Just a thought...

I only had 11 seeds and had 11 seeds sprout giving me 100% germination rate.
I also dug down the side of the mother and the pup is definitely coming off her corm.
Anyway, I wish I could send a photo but don't know how, but I appreciate your input.

Thanks,
Bob

Since Ensete's don't pup, could it be possible that these seeds are of another kind of banana?

Since there's been many pictures posted of people cutting off the psuedostem and causing the corm to pup like crazy on ensete bananas, a possibility may that your corm was somehow damaged at one time causing enough of a disturbance to cause a pup to form.

I planted my ensete glaucum about 18 inches away from the house so I'm hoping it doesn't pup until I plan to force it to for divisions.

Ensete's are the only banana plants I've raised from seed because I have such a good success rate.........plus they're an attractive plant and quite different from our 'ditch' banana plants we find all over the place down here in Louisiana.

Below is Bob6012's photo he sent to me. It does indeed appear to be a suckering Ensete glaucum. This is rare, but not unheard of. There is a suckering Ensete at Kew, I had photos but accidentally lost most of them from that trip unfortunately. Musella lasiocarpa is basically a suckering Ensete.

Thank you, Gabe, for posting my photo. I wish I knew how to do that.
I'm going to grow out this duo and get the seeds in three or four years and then grow them out to see it the trait holds.

Meantime I have two three year olds in the ground that I hope put out seeds before the first freeze of the year down here. I don't know whether they're freeze proof or not as I've been digging them up and putting them in my garage under 6500k lights for years.

Hi, I got my Ensete glaucum - last year - from seed.

So - almost by accident I became a banana grower.

Unfortunately it took long time to germinate - it came up from seed in June, 2014. I replanted it outside in July and had to repot back in early September, because it started to show some signs of frost damage (it is cold in winters where I live).

A couple of weeks ago a sprout appeared next to the main trunk. It seems that my Ensete is pupping. This is how it looks now. Since I have read earlier that they do not, I am a bit surprised, but it seems that I am not the only one.

In summer kept both outdoors and today separated the pup from the parent plant. Minus 3C forecast for the next week here. The pup has already suffered a bit from temperatures and something gnawing on it, but I'll make it survive.

I decided that the pup will spend its winter in pot, while the parent will be overwintered as BigDog describes in his post "Time to store the bananas, dormant for the Winter". I hope this method works for ensete as well.

Wow that's incredible.

I would love to see some pics of that if you could.

It would be the first documented pup from an Glaucum to my knowledge.

Well, unfortunately, I have rid my parent plant from leaves already (left just one - read somewhere that it could help faster awakening in spring). And the pup now looks rather damaged. I will add the photo though.

I am also adding a picture I took on 4 August, where they are still together

Ensete glaucum seeds germination even interval of more than 1 year. 1 first germination, 1 after germination, It will be like that. This is the case of wild growth.
