The eBay & it's seed content...?!

Hi all...
My first thread and I feel I've made my first error?!
Can anyone please give their honest opinion of sellers of seed listings on eBay?
I've made an order from several sellers internationally to perhaps give a better chance of getting some good quality seed.
200 Musa Velutina seeds in total for less than £20 delivered to the UK... is that good?
They're coming from France, Thailand, Spain & Italy... Do I have a chance of germination?

i ordered a couple hundred seed from one supplier and shared them with the whole board and one person got one seed from the batch to germinate.. the only reason i ordered them is because a few people were praising them so hard(my mistake).. in the end i was not impressed..

if you get them to germinate has nothing to do with skill.. it has a lot to do with how old the seed are and or their quality.there are lots of other factors evolved as well.. the seed you are buying could have been collected by anyone.... don't think you can buy from this person or that person and be satisfied every time..you may be taking a big gamble with banana seed bottom line..

I agree with, Ron. It really depends on how old the seeds are. I've had better luck with banana seeds elsewhere. But good luck since you already ordered them. They'll require some patience on your part if and when you get some sprouts.

I ordered and seeded 30 M. Velutina and a dosen(12 pcs) of E. Ventricosum seeds from UK suplier a month ago :)
Still waiting, but at this time no result(if do not count a 5 mm(1/4 inch) little mushroom in one of pots :)) . Of course, I know that must have enough patience with Musa seeds, but I hope at least for some results with Velutina, thats's my love at first site-banana :))
Success with your seeds!

Thank you! :)
I promise to share my seed (If i get any?!) with the forum & eBay...
I'm already tired of the lack of genuine fresh seed available in the UK, through eBay as its one of the easiest places to buy...
Any help for me to achieve this and improve the eBay content would be greatly appreciated by me... (and future growers I'm sure)

I'm thankfull to your countrisiders(not sure about word) - at least for the plants: all 5 I purchased from UK this spring via that site(ebay) were in excellent condition, the guys (or girls ;) ) supplied them are very accurate and correct with packaging(you can take a look to photos in pups-thread) and because of impossibility to US nurseries to ship plants overseas, UK nurseries are almost the only decision for me. So I'm pleased with them.
About the seeds...patience is the keyword :lurk::bananas_b

Re: The eBay & it's seed content...?!

Hi everyone, I just started soaking and scarifying seed I bought from whatcom seed co.
Last year I only had 3 out of 16 sprout. So I'm trying again. I just posted a pic of my seed grown Ensete Glauca from last year that I was able to over winter. I don't advise buying seed from hirt's garden because I got bad seed from them twice and they refused to make good by replacing them. The seed was adenium which I was experienced with and had at least 90% sprouting rate in the past. So stay away from
Hirts. I think banana is a tough one & you just have to keep trying.

Re: The eBay & it's seed content...?!

my personal experience buying banana seed thru ebay sellers.. still to be
determined..but in my case im starting with difficult seed to germinate..
my reasoning is seed are to almost imposible plants to find to buy..
i am watching various places more now..and seeing some banana plants i want showing up for sale..even if they are small.. im patient..
and with seeds..my understanding is some can take yrs to germinate..or
may not germinate at all..
but it is fun to try to start by seeds.. guess thats why we try.. :)
i think best bets though may be buying seed (which i did on ebay) from
small time,plant/banana enthusiants that probably have fresh seed..
just a thought..
good luck to you..and hope you keep posting your experiences..
thanks
