Easy way to transplant?

Anyone know any easy way to transplant a 5' plant? Its in a pot. I dont want to hurt it. Its a dwarf cavendish

Dig a big hole - put the plant in it. Give it some water. Bob's your uncle

Just pull it from the pot root-ball and all and replant it.

Just to add to it. dig a nice big hole then add a bag of composted manure like Black Kow or what ever your local store has. Mix your soil in the hole with the composted manure then plant the banana plant in that mound. Water well.

Like Randy says, and then don't forget to mulch, HEAVY. You might find it easier to remove plant roots and soil intact if you don't water for a few days before taking out of the pot.

Hi Smokey,

do everything Randy says, but first lay plant and pot in its side and try to slide the pot off the plant base.
It helps, if you make sure to never use a pot which tapers inside on the top with plants, which are
subject to re-potting. Otherwise you may have to sacrifice the pot to the cause or run the risk of
hurting the roots. The less you disturb the roots, the faster the plant will recover from the
transplanting shock, which may set it back as much as a month, but which you may avoid entirely,
if you do not change the plants environment too much (sun vs. shade or windy location)

My rule of thumb is dig a million dollar hole for a twenty dollar plant. Also my method of removing plants from big black landscape pots is to lay them on their sides in my driveway, firmly stomping down on three sides of the pot and voila the plant pops right out.

And most important water water water till that plant takes hold. Just havin fun!!

I like that stomping bit, and will certainly try it the next time with a plastic pot. Unfortunately my
next job on that line will be prying an oleander out of a huge ceramic pot.

Bananas are some tough plants. Yank it out. Twist it out. Cut it out(as long as you cut some roots too) and shove it in a hole. Trust me, it's very tough to injure a banana during transplant.

Living in Hawaii, I have the delightful chore of constant pup control. If I leave em be, the various bananas will take over my yard/garden.

A coworker wanted some pups so I just took a spade and hammer to 2 Dwarf Brazilian pups today and shoved them in two cheap nursery pots with random soil that's laying around. Each sword pup is around 3 feet tall and in order to fit them in the 2 gallon pots, I snipped a bunch of the roots but I guarantee they'll live and grow into monsters.
