easy conveinit way to dispose of psudostems
every winter I have a bunch of sudostems to dispose of mostly 8 in dia basjoos if you dont cut them up they lie around for ever but i discovered that if you lay them down and drive your car /truck over them lengthwise they turn into a thin sheet of fiber in one pass mushy and easy to add to the compost/ mulch pile works great and saves a bunch of time

Re: easy conveinit way to dispose of psudostems
Use them for insulating the parts of your basjoos still in the ground! This is my first winter with them but I used them as insulation from the cold.. along with hay stacked on top. If you can protect the pseudostem in the ground from the cold, it'll grow back to the full height of the previous year even faster! Also, decomposition is exothermic meaning it releases heat... so the old stems decomposing under the hay means the stems in the ground will stay warmer :)

Besides using as a mulch the fiber in the pstem can be used to make rope & paper. The Japanese also makes a cloth near silk like called Banana Silk with the fiber. ...
So there could be a nice market for banana fiber. |

Or, if you have pigs, they love eating them.
Pruned leaves go to the goats, and spent stalks go to the pigs. |

I simply pull each layer off and scatter them in the driveway to be destroyed. Leaving spent stems around it just asking for Weevil homes here.
