![]() Hey,
Two questions, I have two newish bananas that haven't grown much yet, but anyway, several earwigs like to hang out in in the pseudostem where the new leaf comes out? Do they do damage? Also, let's say if bananas stop growing at 53 degrees F, does that mean that if it hits 53 degrees, everything stops and then has to start all over again growing? Or if it's mostly 70s, 80s and occasionally drops below 53, it doesn't stop growing? I guess I'm asking if it loses momentum. Thanks. Z |

![]() Hi !
I'm 40 miles north of you in San Diego county, about 8 miles east of Del Mar. You can control Earwigs with pyrethrin. The population is multiplying out of control around here so don't feel bad about destroying your fair share. Sustained temperatures over night below 55 will slow down the growth. The plant will take a portion of the next day to warm up again.

![]() Thanks Richard.
I used diotomaceous earth and it killed them. I just hope that the new leaf will be able to push out the little earwig carcasses out. It has been high 70s and low 80s down here but like tonight it's gonna get down to 49. At this rate the bananas will never grow. Two of them have had the same too leaves since I planted them in ground since March. The pups have grown leaves but also slowly. I know they're not rotten because it's been warm in the day and the pseudostem doesn't show any sign of rot, but who knows? |
