Dying Leaves

Is it best to leave the dying leaves on a plant or can they be cut off without harming the plant.

Indoors or outdoors? If indoors - tidy up the plant by cutting off the dead and dying leaves leaving any with green until they are dead. Outdoors - you might want to leave the dead leaves before you wrap the plant for winter. I note that most members seem to cut off all the leaves before storing. Perhaps someone who lives in the UK can help more.

Hi Steve

If the oldest leaves have gone all brown, then just cut them off, it wont harm the plant if indoors, if outside you should have it wrapped up by now, assuming its musa basjoo

I keep the leaves on the plant, until most of the green has disappeared. Then those
leaves are no longer of any use to the plant and might as well be cut off with a sharp
knife, to avoid tears, which might provide access for disease.

I am not in favour of keeping dead leaves on the plant before packing them up for the
winter. That just stores moisture, which in turn will promote mildew and even rot.

All my plants are indoors and I'm trying to keep them active over winter to give them a head start in spring when I put them back outside. The Mrs is going mad lol plants everywhere with heaters and lights to keep temperature steady , sun light , and humidity. So far so good just hope this work
