![]() I was wondering if someone might be able to help with the identification or this nanner. I know that it is an orinco, but I am not sure if it is a dwarf or tall. It is 5 foot and has two pups, I am wondering if the talls can have pups at 5 foot or does it have to be taller? It is growing at the same rate as my dwarf, and I know that the other one is a dwarf. It has been growing in the greenhouse since December. If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

![]() Hard to tell. I've seen them grow pups as all different stages, and usually the pups outgrow the 'mother' plant. I have a hard enough time telling the difference between Orinocos and Sabas when they are short. It's obvious once the Sabas get going ha ha.

![]() Literature I've read says 6-7 feet for dwarf. I'm guessing it's like with anything else - to crown. Then what, do they fruit or just hang out for a bit? Ha ha. The big Orinocos get as high as 20 or so and rather large at the bottom. Although the Sabas are even bigger at the bottom. HUGE. It's impressive.
I don't think I've had any Orinocos get over 15 in Mandeville. They're either freezing or being broken by hurricanes. I'll have to accurately measure. I've always just eyeballed it. Which is funny because I accurately measure the various palm trees. Where are you? |

![]() That's been my experience. The dwarfs bloomed at 6'-6.5' of p-stem and the orinocos at 8.5'-12' . The larger one leaned over and blocked my garage!
The yard from which these last ones were taken had some that were as you described, HUGE. There were many blooms on the property, some were on small plants while others were on mammoths. They all came from the same corm. Here's the thread on it: is this saba? D.Orinoco (I think.....I'll know for sure as soon as it blooms) @ 6.5' : (The inflorescense is directly over the radio) Orinocos at 8.5'-9' : I'm in Monroe. |

![]() Probably not dwarf then. Not all Orinocos max out that I've dealt with. I've seen plenty of them only be 10' or so and fruit. Freeze or no freeze. It's not predictable.
Then again, sometimes they seem to get beyond what they should and then fruit. Who knows. It's nature. And they are not in their native part of the world! |

![]() It was in the same mat as the ones that fruited @6'.
One year they were all very tall (One has an 8' p-stem this year) , other years p-stem height reached 5'-6'. I've only gotten fruit from the shorter ones. |
