Fellow southern California banana growers.

My plant just started fruiting this month, so how long will it take this time of year for the fruit to be ready to eat?

It depends on how warm your microclimate is and on the variety. In my yard, the minimum is 6 months. Others in So Cal who have more warmth will have their bananas ripen faster. Your plant flowered at a good time. Congrats.

Normally I would say it's quite warm here between April thru the end of October (except for may and june) but we have had very unusual weather this past year.

Warmer than Fallbrook a bit cooler than Temecula.

I'd add the Orinoco was the slowest to ripen variety that I've grown. It took 12 months to ripen, no exaggeration. I only harvested one bunch before I removed that mat, so I don't know if there was something strange about that one. It might have also had something to do with the spot it was growing, which was less than ideal because it had a fair amount of shade during some parts of the year.
