Dwarf Nino
 

While on vacation I tried some small bananas that tasted awesome. I sent some photos to ty and he narrowed it down to a nino. Due to the taste of the little flavor bombs,I'm now trying to learn all I can about it. I have been roaming the net but really haven't found a great deal of info on it. For those of you growing or researching, please share your thoughts/experience. I just want to be prepared when ty is ready to part with another nino pup...hint,hint,Lol.

Im interested in this also, I think dwarf nino may be nino enano and full size is nino comun. Im guessing as I dont have this banana, but did look into it. Theyre an AA diploid related to sucrier.

I am about to grow both tall and short. I got them because I saw PR Giants mentioned they are short cycle so I wanted to try. Got sucrie too hoping it is short cycle.

You are 100% correct!

My 3 dwarf Ninos are growing great! Fast growers but a little slow to start like most AA types. They are doing great for me. The largest 2 are just over 7' so I'm hoping they flower very soon! My 3rd is about a foot behind. It is shorter since it has been nursing 3 pups for awhile.

I'm trying to share as fast as possible. Jody63 one will be available for you very soon. Few weeks hopefully. I'll be in touch! I will post a summery of the plants growth and fruiting after it is done.

Thanks! I'm hoping this one will be a top grower for me! The fruit are so sweet and amazing! They are sometimes sold as "child bananas"

No rush.I can't wait for you to post pics of yours with bananas ready to be harvested! Definitely keep us updated on how thing's go..not found very much to read about on them.

Is there a short cycle list with the zones they will fruit in?

I think a bunch of this is still in the trial and error stage. I have a bunch of short cycles now and hope to record data from my area that gets in the mid to low 20s. Not only do we need a short cycle list but what is short cycle because imo it is 4 months and under.

I define short season as any that will bloom from an P-stem or from an established mat and have time to mature or plump enough to hang and ripen in one season. The zone designator should tell you if you have a chance at growing that variety in your area.

Difference between growing a variety and producing fruit from a variety. Dwarf Cavendish grows awesome here. I never see a flower because it freezes to the ground. You can't define short cycle to make a short cycle list based on one season because at that point the list would not be universal because not everyone has the same seasonal conditions. I think short cycles are sort of expected to be a little more for everyone to produce fruit instead of waiting and hoping the cold does not get it first.

Maybe I misunderstood you but that is the point in my definition of flowering to the point of maturing (that means to the point of eating) or plumping (that means you can hang them and they will ripen). In the second sentence I used the word "growing" but only in the context of the first sentences parameters. Sorry for the confusion. As far as "one season" I was setting limits for the word "short" in the cycle. Unless you live in 9a or South of there no bananas will work every year.

I'm confused are you saying there can't be a list or that it has to be applicable to everyone and not location defined?
