Dwarf Lady Finger Banana (Logees)
 

There was some discussion of this banana a few months ago and I thought I would post a few pictures of the one I got last spring. This particular plant started to bloom last fall and spent the winter in the greenhouse (42 degrees minimum temp). The fruit is getting close to being ripe and there are several pups in the pot. The pseudostem is about 4 foot tall and the plant is in a 20 gallon container. I think I will plant the pups in 45 gallon pots to give them a little more room.





Has anyone else had their fruit get ripe yet from this plant?

Thanks for posting the pictures. I purchased one after reading the thread about this plant, and it's nice to see what I have to look forward to! I haven't kept good records of when I got some of these impulse buys. But I think mine is about 8-9 mo. old. Please post comments on the fruit when ready.Here's a picture of mine.

Thanks for the picture Nanaman. They look like they could be twins (Oh I guess they are since they came out of tissue culture). I'll be sure to post info about the taste of the fruit. There has been some debate about the actual cultivar of this plant. I am still unsure what it is but maybe the fruit will help clear up the uncertainty.

Richard, I've been trying to find a banana variety that tastes like some I had as a small child. Most important to me is the taste and texture of the fruit, plant size (unless too large) bunch size, or any other characteristic are not important as far as my goal is concerned. The one I remember was dwarf or semi dwarf, sweet, with firm texture. I'll know when I taste it, then I'll fill the yard with it! This plant has potential, fingers crossed ...Ha !

I bought one of these several weeks ago from Logees and although small, is doing quite well. New leaves are emerging with red splotching which seems to fade as the leaf grows older. Is this normal for this banana or did I receive something other than a Ladyfinger.

Here's mine that I got last Fall. I kept mine in the greenhouse, but in a pretty small pot. I just potted it up a bit a couple of months ago, and it's growing nicely. Nothing quite like you guys in warmer climates though!! Nice pics! Let us know how they taste please, Richard!

Fruit From Dwarf Lady Finger (Logees)
 

I cut the fruit in the earlier photo this past weekend. The summer heat here in south GA was starting to take its toll on the fruit so I went ahead and took it down. We had high temps in the high 90's over the weekend and the plant was getting way too much sun for the amount of foliage it had covering the fruit. (That is a CA Gold bunch in the background.)

The bunch weighed in at 13 pounds. The flavor is pretty good. Not unlike the standard grocery store banana (Cavendish) but with a little more sweetness and a little more flavor. I personally like the acidic types better (Goldfinger, Nawah, FHIA-18, etc.) but the flavor from this variety was not bad at all and probably would be better if the heat had not started to "cook" them a little before I took them down. (Not to mention it was grown and fruited in a 20 gallon container.)
