Dwarf Lady Finger Arrived
My dwarf lady finger banana arrived today from Logees. I was excited until I opened the box! I carefully removed the packing paper and found a smashed plant with a broken stem! USPS did a terrible job of shipping this plant even though the packing was very good.
I called Logees, and they are sending a replacement.

Man that must have been disappointing. Maybe the corm will be ok and you' end up with 2. Hope next shipment goes better.

Re: Dwarf Lady Finger Arrived
Hi Austin,
Looks like it got frost-bit, too! Glad you're getting a replacement. Though I think that the plant you have can still survive with some care. I find Logee's plants to be pretty tough cookies. Just place them where it's warm and humid. Chong |

Re: Dwarf Lady Finger Arrived
Wow, that's a much bigger plant than I've got from them the two times I've ordered Dwarf Ladyfinger from them. I'm not complaining about my smaller plants - high demand lead them to sell plants more quickly. I guess they must now have a better supply (and/or lower demand) thus the lower prices and larger plants.
I've moved mine out of the bay window in my house and into my greenhouse as it was getting to dried out in my home. It's doing well and I should plant it in the ground in a couple of weeks or so. Good luck! Harvey |

Re: Dwarf Lady Finger Arrived
I'm sorry this experience was bad, as I told you how nicely they pack. I hope the replacement turns out as good as my plants were.

Re: Dwarf Lady Finger Arrived
Save that plant. Just cut it where it's broken.
I just posted how disappointed I am at usps. I got my pup today from Mitchel & it sat at a post office 10 miles away all day yesterday! Was s'posed to be here. We tracked it & it said "missent" to zip code 220 instead of 202 (clearly written!) The pup is fine but what a headache!

Re: Dwarf Lady Finger Arrived
Thanks for the encouragement! I was expecting a beautiful plant only to find that! Oh well, I cut it back to the broken stem and expect it to recover but be set back a little bit. I will try to nurture it back to health. I just need some warm, sunny days outside...too much rain and cool temps lately. I'll update this thread as the plant grows (or dies).

Re: Dwarf Lady Finger Arrived
It should grow back. I hope it does anyway.
Say, that looks like a nice size plant, how tall was it? Do you have another pic? |

Re: Dwarf Lady Finger Arrived
Bill: The plant was in a box stuffed with paper. I was surprised it was damaged like that. The box looked perfect, but it was probably upside down or dropped to cause that sort of damage. Customer service was top notch. In fact, I was surprised that it was so easy to get a replacement!
Pete: The size was about 12 inches tall if it wasn't broken. I don't have another pic, but it had a nice little stem on it. I expect it to recover, but I wasn't expecting this sort of damage!

Re: Dwarf Lady Finger Arrived
That's a bummer! Logee's is a great company. There's a good reason they've been in business since 1892! USPS on the other hand...ugh. The last two items that I've sent "Priority Mail" took four days to get to their destination. So much for their 2-3 day promise. They just keep getting worse as the years go by.

Re: Dwarf Lady Finger Arrived
True story from a temporary mail carrier here: he rang my doorbell & said I had a letter with 10 cents postage due. No dime so I gave him a quarter. 5 minutes later I looked at it & it was from ME sent to a PO box. It was sent back to me because there was no one to pay the postage due there. If there is postage due & other end doesn't pay, it just comes back "return to sender". What a dummy! He was s'posed to just put it in my mailbox but he saw it stamped "Postage Due"...for the OTHER end.
When I ship plants, I write "FRAGILE" & "LIVE PLANTS" on box. Like I told Mitchel, when the clerk asks 10 questions like, want insurance? want delivery confirmation? etc etc, I grab them around the neck & say "it better get there"! And to think...Priority just went up. For what??

Re: Dwarf Lady Finger Arrived
I shipped over 600 packages of chestnuts via USPS Priority last year and all but one of them arrived in 3 days or less. That one slow one was a large package (a roaster) during Christmas and such delays during that time are to be expected. Besides one box getting wet (which can happen at terminals, I've been told), all arrived in good shape. I'm disappointed to see their rates go up so much lately, but I've been pleased with their service. The only problem I have is that sometimes employees seem to hate it when I show up with 50-100 boxes and seem to forget I'm paying their salary!
