Re: Dwarf lady finger?
Wanting to grow something with really small fruit like you find in the grocery store. I researched and it was called Musa Niņo another member said. It's awesome looking, but very hard to find and people don't grow it because it is so picky with temp flukes.
On Logees website they have LF and DC and both have the same species name for both? |
Re: Dwarf lady finger?

The only GK/KK I could find for sale was through FHN. I bought a young tc from there a little over a year ago and so far so good, the plant is almost fully grown and looks just like the pics that Tog Tan posted. It's a slender plant with long narrow leaves (sort of like Gros Michel leaves in that regard) that looks like it'll flower around 7'. Hopefully it'll fruit in the spring and prove to be what it's supposed to be. |
Re: Dwarf lady finger?
Assuming the Lady Finger I'm growing is the same as the Logees one. It is different that my double mahoi, which is basically a dwarf cavendish which may be double bunched. I prefer it and think of it as halfway between a Williams (store type) and a Gros Michel. Better taste, texture, and more fragrant than a Williams, but not quite as delicious as I find the Gros Michel to be. Assuming Nino is the same as Sucrier/Pisang Mas, etc. but shorter, it is also tasty but quite different. Very tiny fruit and small bunches, but I like them.

I think someone else on here said LF was a disappointment as well.

I agree that the Niņos sold as Baby Bananas at the grocery store are not egg shaped like the GK/KK bananas in Tog's photo. I would guess the two are not exactly the same cultivar, but may be closely related. |
Re: Dwarf lady finger?
I just want to find some plant that has small nanners! Dwarf Orinoco are the smallest I have. Which the niņo or whatever the yellow ones at walmart are were smaller, skinnier.

Re: Dwarf lady finger?
Musa Ornata huh. Didn't think they were really ediable ? Velutina are another somewhat small fruit I have which are really great but all the seeds.
