Default Dwarf Giant Banana

I saw a "Dwarf Giant Banana" for sale in Santa Cruz this weekend and I was wondering what kind it is. Is it a cavendish? For some reason I thought I read about it somewhere but can't find it.

Hmmm....I've never heard of that one before. Seems kind of an oxymoron of a name to me!

It seems like an oxymoron to me as well, but that is what it said.

Well, it is pretty much a direct translation from French of 'Grand Nain', could be that. 'Grand Nain' is called such because it is a large version of 'Dwarf Cavendish', characterized by having persistent male flowers and bracts. This also easily differentiates it from 'Williams' which is more or less a shorter 'Giant Cavendish'. 'Williams' is nearly identical to 'Grand Nain' except the bracts and male flowers fall off like normal.

Yeah I was thinking about the gran nain and was wondering if that was it. Oh well I didn't get it so I guess someone else will have to find out. I just didn't feel like getting it if it was a cavendish.

California has a common cultivar here called "Enano Gigante", which exactly means "Dwarf Giant".
I'd guess that's it. It's a nice growing cultivar, and doesn't get much taller than about 6-7 feet before the flag leaf.
It's worthwhile, as long as you don't pay Too much for it.
