Dwarf Cavendish? Or is there any chance it will be tall?

Hello :)

I got a “Dwarf Cavendish” of Netherlands production that seems to me that it’s not very dwarf in characteristics. Is there any chance this will be a tall Cavendish variety?

Thank you very much in advance!

What a beautiful plant. Here’s the one I got from Lowe’s. $42

Arr...can’t figure out the image. I trying to get correct form.

I’ve tried about 6 different formats and links.

Ok so that just worked.

Ok, I see the website is creating a “watermark” for the image which is messing with the original format and makes it exclusive to bananas.org.

Ok @Kostos here’s the Dwarf Cavendish I bought at Lowe’s for $42. He’s not nearly as pretty as yours, but he’s making me happy. :-) Need to get him in the ground soon.

Thank you very much for your replies! :)

Cin, thank you very much for your help! Great to hear you think it will get larger than typical Dwarf Cavendish. I *hope* it gets pretty tall, that's why i selected this plant(that and the beautiful markings on the leafs)

Well done Jared and a very nice plant you have there!! Happy growing it!!!!

I need to get mine in the ground too!

Thx for the help posting pic.

Even if it doesn’t get tall...it’s easier to manage the tree and harvest the fruit. :-)

I have some more plants coming so I’ll probably wait and get them all in the ground at the same time. I hope yours does well, it’s very healthy looking!

You are very welcome! :)

I am a bit partial to tall banana plants Really hope it gets big. We will see how it grows!

I will be planting it this week, it’s not acclimated to outdoor conditions and it’s pot cannot sustain it in the heat we have here, dries out instantly

I like them too. I just can’t have any at my current place. Although I do think about how hard it would be to maintain the plant and winterize it.

I like them all though. Any plans as to how you will plant it? Fertilizer, soil, compost, etc?

Bananas are pretty easy here, they don’t really demand anything special to grow other than lots of water and fertilizer as long as they don’t see any damaging cold in the growing area. When cold weather gets in the equation, everything changes and they become significantly more difficult and high maintenance plants. I know because I grew them when I lived in 8b/9a climate too and they were not easy

I will plant it like all my other bananas, a good wide hole over my clay soil and fill with a mix of organic soil with 30% zeolite mixed in and another 20% native clay soil mixed in. They do great that way and just like to be kept wet

Sounds like a good plan. Does the zeolite help with oxygenation? Is it similar to the perlite?

I want to dig a rather large hole myself. I’m debating on a round hole, square, or rectangular. I just know I want a big hole that’s fairly deep so I can load it with nutrition.

Yes, it’s for good drainage/aeration mainly, plus it binds up nutrients and releases them slowly.

I generally like medium depth, wide holes so that the banana doesn’t get too deep in the clay soil, but rather above the clay soil for better drainage. The roots dig into the clay and enjoy the moisture though but for the corm to be in the clay during a cold winter is not good.
Dig it the way you like the clump to spread eventually as it grows. And take into amount the clump will be more than 1m wide pretty soon
