Hi guys, 3 o of 4 of my cavendish clumps have suffered the same fate. They appear to get through the winter without problem, then instead of their leading pstem from growing they’ll send out pups and the leader will stay stagnant. On closer inspection the leader will have a rotten new leaf in the middle of the pstem which breaks apart without much effort.

After being cut back to where no rot persists it just stays stumped and the pups continue to grow. Any ideas of the issue and how combat it? Thanks!

That has been my experience with Cavendish variants, the Reds, and others. There is something "magical" about 55F. When temps dip below that temp (or somewhere thereabout) during the winter, they seem to suffer a loss of vigor and most often do not recover it when temps warm in the spring. It seems to afflict plants that are 12 months and older, but not younger pups which will grow and thrive till the next winter, when the cycle will repeat. I don't know what the cause is, but have seen it replay over many years.

Tall varieties such as Misi Luki, Praying Hands, etc. do not appear to have this as an issue.

Interesting, thank you. My gold finger also did it the first year. Actually it wasn’t the brown center rot, it can out very limp and faded and would break apart if I tried to manipulate it. I guess I’ll need to get rid of my cavendish. You’re right, only my larger clumps did this
