Dripping leaves
 

Is it normal for the leaves on banana plants to drip? I've tried to find the answer but so far no luck. I haven't put them in the bathroom and started misting them yet as I want to re-do the dirt they're in. They just drip.

I notice mine doing that (on my indoor bananas) mostly in the morning. I'm pretty sure it is due to the process of transpiration. Nothing to worry about. In fact, I'd be more worried if you didn't see this happening, as it would probably mean that your plants are overly dry.

yeap perfectly normal,my rarer philodendrons do this as well some times!

These days when i repot pups and take them indoors i water a little at a time over a few days until i see water dripping from the leaves in the early morning then i know they will be ok.
So for me its a kind of guide all is well watering-wise - primitive i know but it works for me.

musa ... I didn't water mine like that purposely but it's what I did with the two pups I ordered. I'm happy to hear this!

Real glad to hear dripping is normal. I kept hearing that my banana plants were crying whenever my family walked past them.

Neither did i at first, just guessed it must be ok as the nanas i have outside were like it. Thats the thing with nanas they are still relatively rare in the garden so sites like this one are pure gold to find and their a friendly :bunchonanas: bunch here.

......nanas crying that's cute....... must be the cold weather :)

tell your family there tears of joy. your family will think youve really gone bananas! we like happy nanas. i thought i was doing something wrong too when mine started doing that. gabe told me it was ok. their still doing it so i guess there happy.

Cookiecow iam so glad you posted this thread! When i first brought the bananas inside for the winter, i did notice that the leaves did drip water! And i would look and wonder where it was coming from.

But iam still afraid of getting the rotten corm thing if i water too much!
They seem to do all right with ABOUT once a month water. Wilst not growing, they arent dying either.
They still have 4 to 5ft of growth on them in the basement.
Meanwhile the saba i have ,has started to grow in a br, that is not as warm as my bathroom. But it is in a southwest window. Not as big as mskitty, but growing slowly.
My Orinoco is still just sitting there! Its not dying{good sign} but just sitting there! On to more research-----------------------Magicgreen
