![]() Musa double Mahoi pup seems to be growing abnormaly ( I think )
It's the largest one of the pups I have and in a few weeks the bananas will be ready to be removed.. My question is, is Is this abnormal? Or just due to sunlight ? Its perfectly straight or inline . Its the one I want to keep because its largest and in the best location!!! but if its weird ....I'll just HACK IT UP! Or I might put it on the side of the house after a long discussion with my wife about having too many plants ![]() ![]() Below is a normal looking pup on same plant! ![]()

![]() That pup is the second generation on that new corm .. So its going to be 2 years old next season! I thought I recalled you had the same ( Mahoi) and would be a plethora of info! but my main concern was the fact that its not spiraling as its growing ! I AM WORRIED :>) ... I just planted 6 dwarf papaya and have no more room to keep something that is questionable
This is causing me to think about drinking ![]()

![]() Trebor --- I seem to remember Nick posting several times about runty sports on some of his Hua Moa mats. I'd cut that thing out and toss it right now. It's stealing food from the normal sucker. And drinking is a good idea -- After done driving.

![]() I've seen this from another member here on the forum only it was a dwarf cavendish I believe. I think it's kinda cool...as stated, very travelers tree-esque. I'd keep it and see what the pups that grow off it look like.

![]() I have seen many crazy looking leaf patterns with ARH, and they all have become normal after a little while. One recent one was 3 leaves on top of each other likes yours except much closer, then the twist and repeated the pattern several times.
I would let it grow, if for no other reason then just to see what ends up happening. It looks cool, so if you don't want it send it to Puerto Rico.

![]() I've seen pictures of other bananas that grew like travellers palms. I don't see that as a reason to chop it up.

![]() Agreed, that's a pretty cool mutation.
Besides, what's the worst that could happen? ![]()

![]() I believe this a symptom called bunchy top which is a problem in the commercial banana industry. I seem to remember the term choke throat used as well, eventually the leaves get smaller and smaller and choke the plant and it gets unfruitful.
I would cut out the offending stem and hope the whole plant is not effected. Sorry to be the barer of bad news. |

![]() Mine is doing the exact same thing and is also the 2nd generation of the original plant. The first plant, the one I bought never flowered, then this one came up and was doing well until the past couple months. I'm letting it keep growing.

![]() This growth pattern is very common for the 'Double Cavendish', it seems the mutation which deforms it's bunch also often deforms it's growth pattern before it flowers.

![]() LOL hilarious cartoon!
And Brod...definitely not bunchy top. That looks much different and I don't believe it's a problem in FL at this time.

![]() This important advice may come a bit late, but I think you should try an exorcist first. ![]()
