![]() Ok so these 2 bananas been in my basement for almost 3 months now, i gave them no water (the soil is bone dry), the room they are in is completly dark, the temp hovers between 58-62 and the humidity 30-40%.
Now the one the right is a dwarf orinoco and seams to be dormant but the one on the left is a hybrid williams and it refuses to go dormant, puts out a leaf about every 2 weeks. what am i doing wrong? also ive included some pics of my other nanas i have growing to set out in the spring. |

![]() I think they may be too warm. Here is my situation: Even though we have had a very warm winter so far here in Bergen-Norway we are still far north wet, and cold! My musa basjoo, sikkimensis, and helens hybrids have refused to go dormant in the ground outside. They have pushed up through the protection! And we are in the range of 32-50 degrees F.
To keep a banana dormant it seems you have to stay below 50 degrees, and it probably matters wich type. I think orinoco, rajapuri, basjoo, sikkimensis, and balbisiana are typical species that can grow even below 50 degrees. Other bananas such as Cavendish types seem to need higher than 50 degrees to start growing.

![]() i agree with you but that is why im confused because the orinoco is the one that actually looks dormant, the williams is the one that refuses to go in to dormancy

![]() I'm starting to get worried about my plants also. Our temps have been around 70f for several days. I can't find any place cooler than that. The temp at the level of the corms is around 60f also. The plants won't fit in the extra fridge w/out being cut, and I'd have to fight with the boys b/c thats where they store their kegs.
Should I mist the corms a little? I'm really not sure what to do. nucci60, I don't have your courage. I haven't brought myself to lift the tarp! Any ideas on what to do here?
