Does anyone know how to kill the banana moth (Opogona sacchari)

First the caterpillar hit the Ae Ae bananas.

Then the caterpillars started to eat the bromeliads.

Now it's trying to kill my Talipot palm.

Take at look at my Ae Ae blog.

I don't think we have that in Massachusetts. I would have a bug zapper to attract the moths and zap them at night for the first defense. Do they lay eggs on the surface or do they bore into the plant? I use dormancy or all season oil up here to smother the eggs of insects on my apple and pear trees. I know people put tar paper or plastic around the stem of a sqaush or vine so when the vine borer moth lays eggs on it they just dry up and die.YouTube - ‪Squash vine borer prevention‬‏. Maybe you can wrap the truck with something that breaths, Maybe even an old bed sheet or fine screen to prevent the moth from laying its eggs on the plant? Just some thoughts. Plastic wrap would probably heat up the truck and definitely not breath. Even those sticky fly traps hanging near the plants for yet another defense.

Find a company that sells insect-pathogenic nematodes and ask them for a suitable one for this species. They will surely be able to recommend you the best nematodes for the job and believe me,insect-pathogenic nematodes work wonders...and fast!!!!!

I am sorry it attacked your Corypha as well. That must hurt more than the bananas...

A systemic insecticide will kill anything feeding off of the plants - try the Bayer products that contian imidicloprid. The moth will still be around, but no caterpillars.
