Default Do pups come back when you store a corm?

Hi

My Musa rajapuri and Musa grand nain bananas are both doing great and they have pups. These 2 bananas will be dug out for the winter and stored dormant in my basement.
What will happen next year when I plant them as far as the pups they have now?
Will the pups come right back or will they be goners?
My goal is to have big mats of bananas.
Just wondering what your experience is.

Thanks a lot

Patrick

It's my understanding that there will be apical meristem in the corm for each pup . As long as you don't cut this out of the corm the pup should come back . Likewise , if your trying to control a mat and don't cut this part out while removing the pup it'll juist pop back out in the same place .

I appreciate the help Pete. And no I will not cut the part where the pups originate.
I guess next spring when I plant them I will see for myself.

Thanks again

I have no experience with Gran Nain, but Raja Puri tends to rot out on me from the apical meristem. I get new sprouts on the corm each spring that grow very fast and stout though. Now Orinoco I have much better luck with. The pups will almost invariably come back the next year for me. I do cut them back when hauling under the house for the winter though. The little bit of pseudostem you save on a pup just isn't worth the cumbersome size issue when I'm trying to fit it through a crawl space door.
