Digging up an in-ground plant
So the first banana plant I purchased and planted last year was a Gran Nain. Since then I've learned that Gran Nain is not an ideal variety for Southern California.
I want to dig up the Gran Nain and replant it into a container and put a Dwarf Namwah in ground where the Grain Nain is currently growing. When I dig up the Gran Nain how much of the current root system should I try to dig up? I'm assuming since the plant has been in the ground for a year the roots have grown out a good distance and are probably too extensive to fit into a container. I appreciate any feedback you guys can offer.

Re: Digging up an in-ground plant
The more roots the better for the plant you are transplanting, but if you are worried about it coming back from where you dug it out, don't worry about the roots, just get all of the corm. For transplanting, the roots don't do that well if exposed to the air for a long time, so get them under soil as quickly as you can.
