Re: Cuban Apple Banana
'Manzano' is sometimes called 'Apple' and I think that 'Brazilian' is also sometimes called 'Apple' as well. I don't think I've ever heard of Cuban Apple before. Bananas go by so many different names that it's tough to keep them all straight.

Re: Cuban Apple Banana
If someone is selling a "Cuban" apple banana, it's probably just marketing- you can't buy anything out of Cuba legally (cigars, rum, etc), let alone plant material.

Re: Cuban Apple Banana
I'd say its a manzano or brazilian, since its not a dwarf cuban apple then it would probably be a dwarf braz.. Like they said its a marketing technique. :^)

Re: Cuban Apple Banana
I have seen this name before in a botanic garden, but I never saw it flower and that plant is dead now. Common names should not be regarded as definitive in any case, but in this one I have no idea.

apple-flavored dessert banana which is resistant to Panama disease and nematodes, and is tolerant to black Sigatoka. Is being grown commercially in Cuba. |
Re: Cuban Apple Banana
I have heard the Manzano called Cuban Apple banana. And the Brazilian
an Hawaiian Apple banana. |
Re: Cuban Apple Banana
Thanks for all the replies. I went today and picked it up, the mother plant was pretty big, at least 14 feet and had a huge think stalk. The pup is pretty giant as well. We will see, sure was a nice looking nanner (and pup) in any case!
