A couple of bananas were split, why?
A couple of fingers of my Dwf. Cavendish were split as shown in the photo.
Although this is my first experience in my banana life, one of my banana friends told me he had exactly the same experience. I honestly don't know the reason why, while I suspect it would be somehow related with over watering. Does anyone on the forum have the same case and know why? |

Re: A couple of bananas were split, why?
Check out Jack Daws answer. That is what has happened several times with dwarf Cavendish. Hua Moa is more prone to it than Cavendish.

Re: A couple of bananas were split, why?
Splitting is a common problem with many bananas. Rhinohorns are very susceptible to that. The more curved the banana is, the better the chance of it splitting.

Re: A couple of bananas were split, why?
Completely normal, especially with Cavendish-types, some plantains (Hoa Moa, as mentioned, is a particular offender), and Sucriers. (and a number of ornamentals, notably M. dasycarpa which splits when it's ripe.)
I've noticed more splitting occurs in my Cav-types and Sucriers when I've had an abnormally wet or rainy season while the fruit were setting. |

Ah ha ha ha - they're just needing some company of some vanilla ice cream, some chocolate syrup...
