Controlling the corm

Hey all! I have a 3’x12’ strip of dirt by my fence in my mostly paved side yard, and I think this could support about 3 short banana trees. These trees would be in a full sun location. Based on people’s recommendations in related theads, I’ll need to plant my trees at least 2’ away from the fence, and cut down any pups that pop up within ~1’ of the fence. People also suggest using a substantial root barrier at the fence to prevent the corm from spreading under the fence and into my neighbors yard.

Does anyone here use root barriers to control their corm? How much does the corm spread over time, and how do you prevent it from taking over your garden?
