Default Cold -is my plant dead?

Southern California has had some very cold nights these past few weeks. I had been putting a blanked over my plant for most nights and was noticing some brown on the leave. Then, I watered well before leaving town for 6 days, but when I returned, all my leaves were wilted and brown. This is a newly planted plant. Is it dead? Or are the leaves just dead. Thanks for your help.

It depends on how deep the frost got into the ground.
Light frost=dead leaves
Medium frost=dead leaves and stem
Hard frost =dead leaves, stem and corm.
All this depends on protection you gave the plant. Plus depends on the plant itself. If you can keep the corm alive, your plant will come back.

It may have killed the pseudostem but likely new pups will come from the corm. You can fix it - it is what it is, so just be patient and see what happens.

It's been really cold here as well. I placed all my plants in the garage, and some of my plants look terrible.

It's best to not water them when there's cold weather expected...most plants can tolerate slightly colder temperatures when they are dry...just wrap some horticultural fleece around the remaining stems and hopefully they may start sending out new leaves.
