Chop at angle or flat?

When you need to chop back how do you all do it?
I am thinking angel chops may work best to help with water run off
Or does it even matter? I have 4 very large maybe ice creams planted about a week ago

They have been cut back to around 3' with a pretty fat stem.
So far I've got 2" rain in two and half days(With rain filling the forecast) they seem fine, but I wonder if my flat cuts on top could induce rotting.

I think cutting at an angle is a great idea. It may help the new leaves to come out also.

I updated the thread title for you. Interesting topic, looking forward to the opinions and reasoning.

I had not really thought about it. I have cut flat, but I have noticed more rot as you suggest. We have had alot more rain than is ususal this time of year.
I am going to try the angle cut and see how that works out next time. Hopefully not this year, or next! :2239:

Is this for harvesting or for something else? Why are you chopping your plants?

I wish it was for harvesting.. but no it just one of those needed chops. These plant were dug up and overwintered and had mushy tops

thx for fixing that Jarred.

I think it doesn't matter thee angle just that you get rid of the soft non-viable tisssue. :^)

Gabe,

I've had to chop pseudostems due to cold damage. It is not very often that happens here. :2239:
