Chinese Yellow Banana, Golden Lotus Banana (Musella lasiocarpa) How to seperate pups?

How do you separate the pups on this variety? They are attached directly to the mother, not via a corm??? I did as I normally would and began cutting in between the mother and pup on some 2 plus footers, and they severed clean without roots? They sprout from in between the place, at the base, where the leaf intersects the stalk. I did manage to get one with roots, but I really think I just killed 3 pups and maybe the mother.

How do you separate the pups? Have you done it successfully?
Thanks,

Rick,

I have experienced the same problems with M. lasiocarpa. I have even gone so far as to dig the whole plant up in order to better see the point of attachment. It's basically a crap shoot. M. lasiocarpa pups so tightly to the mother plant that I inevitably end up destroying a few. On the other hand it does help keep the plant from getting out of hand. I have a M. ornata that is constantly sending out pups 2'-3' away from the mother plant. It is a constant struggle to keep it in bounds. Always plenty of pups to share that way, though!

M laterita perhaps???
I gave my dad one of these a couple years ago and had to virtually eliminate it from the yard, as it kept sending remote pups a distance away from the mother plant.

It's at it again. 2 new pups, from between the layers at the base. The other 3 are in a pot, and not dead yet???? I just put them in the morning sun, and we'll see if they grow?
