Central Illinois banana bunch
My cousin who lives near Peoria, Il. posted this to Facebook today. It most certainly can be done, growing bananas in zone 6
Depending on cultivar and weather they may even make enough to eat before frost.

What it seems I actually have: Brazilian, Cavendish, Namwah, Dwarf Red, Gros Michel, Pisang Ceylon, Veinte Cohol and SH 3640, and American Goldfinger. FHIA 1, Paggi and FHIA 17... Always room for one more. |

Re: Central Illinois banana bunch
Wooohoooo!!!
Tell him to prune all but the 1-2 top hands! If he does it may fill fast enough for him to eat one!! One hand to eat is better than 5 frozen and black on the ground! Awesome man! Much respect to someone who gets a bunch in zone 6!! It's a decent bunch too!!

Re: Central Illinois banana bunch
It wasn't his. He was driving down the road and saw it. Since he is trying his hand at a banana for the first time this year, he was impressed they did it. (As are we.) I have been trying to get him to come here and learn. I am not sure why he has not.
