Can one preserve the rhizome/corm for later?
I am wondering if, I can store the rhizome/corm of the sucker for later use say after 5 months. Perhaps with some treatment when preserving to avoid infections? Or will the rhizome die?

Some forum members store them bare root or in pots in basements and cool garages. Winters in the northern zones are 5-7 months and plants are replanted outdoors when it warms up. Here is an good example http://www.bananas.org/2057-post1.html |

In Africa Ensete corms have been proven to stay dormant in the ground for upto 8 years! Then the rain comes and they start growing! That is just amazing to me!
I would test a pup before doing the whole collection! Keep it dark, cool, and dry. Maybe consider “under sand conditions with no rain”. It would be a fun experiment to try! I know some store dry better than others. Orinoco would be my first choice! They store dry very easily. Please report your results! |
