California Gold and "Dwarf" Brazilian

California Gold mat in the foreground (3 pseudostems) and Dwarf Brazilian (debatably dwarf) in the background. I figured placing the Cali. Gold here next to the window and against the house would maximize the opportunity for fruiting.

Banana heights are given in pseudo-stem height, not height including leaves. So if your Dwarf Brazilian fruits within a p-stem height of 6 to 9 feet it will be right in the expected range. See the Wiki for more information on this cultivar.

It looks to be in the 10 foot area at present. One seasons growth. I have a feeling "dwarf" is inaccurate.

The main attaction of this picture is definitely the Cali. Gold. It has beautiful form. Benny sent me a pup around this time last year. It's such a healthy happy plant. Main pseudostem is just under 6' tall. It holds around 17 leaves at a time. The two pups are not too far behind. This little clump is gonna give me my best chance for fruit here in 8A. The location of the plant lends itself to good protection. I can even give it a temporary shelter if need be.

Buffy:
Your Calif Gold looks so cool. Much better than mine. How did it fare last winter? Expect to blossom anytime now. It looks like it is that height that my CG blossomed. Between 4 to 6 feet. But expect larger bunches because your p-stem is much larger than mine.
Congratulations.
Now you can get your investment back if you sell your pups.

Benny

If it is not 'Dwarf Brazilian', then it is possibly not Brazilian either.

In common nomenclature, the term 'Dwarf' is only used when a shorter, mutant pup is propagated by a named variety. There are many fruiting bananas that are short in stature but do not have 'Dwarf' in their name.

My dwarf Brazilians were almost as tall as my Calif Gold when they fruited. Not 9 feet. Only 5 1/2 feet.

I probably won't be selling pups on this one. I had this pup in the greenhouse last winter until April. The whole mat is beautiful. Looks like I found the right combo of conditions for it. It shows just a touch of overwatering, but beyond that, very robust growth. It doesn't look like its quite ready to bloom. I'm not seeing any reduction in leaf size.

I have one of its sisters is about to bloom now. the last leaf was about just a foot and a half and it is less than 6 feet. I am going to post the picture in a day or so.
I am just like you. I have 2 extra pups that I can sell right now but I just want them to grow like the others. This is the only banana that I have that will grow to ripeness in my area. Maybe dwarf orinoco but as of right now the fruit don't grow big anymore.

"Dwarf" Brazilian

Dwarf Brazilian is a fairly tall robust plant...but still a dwarf in comparison to regular Brazilian (as Richard noted):
