California Gold Bud ?

Re: California Gold Bud ?

I know I'm not an expert, and I'm still new to posting on the site, even though I've been coming here for years, but may I ask what this means? I am confused, and maybe I don't get the purpose for this post... is there more to the story?

Thanks so much in advance for taking the time explaining. :o

I have not seen a fag leaf but there seems to be a blossom pushing out. What do you think ? Does it look ike one.

I was confused, because all of the leaves looked equal and not really looked like anything going on, but is it engorged at the grow point?

Hang on, Tony, I think your CG is going to give you another 10 pups and grow to 12' tall before it flowers! ;)

I can't think of anyone ever indicating their CG flowered without a flag leaf preceding the flower. Maybe you just had a very vigorous flag leaf???

I think I have the same situation I have with the White Iholena. The flag leaf may be there but it hasnet opened.

I wanted to take a pic of a Saba that's doing this in my yard, but the flag finally broke free of the other leaf's sheath.
It was like yours for two weeks and didn't look that much like anything but a new leaf that was taking it's sweet time emerging.
The previous leaf is only very slightly smaller than the largest leaf.

I have the same thing. There is a leaf trying to emerge and it's been this way for a week. Pretty sure it will be a flag leaf. The C.G. hasen't grown in height for a while now so something is going on.

Tony, you've been waiting a long time for this. How tall is your plant now?

Right at 7'4" and 35" around at the soil line' I am real interested in seeing what this plant will put out in zone 10.

Congratulations, Tony! I understand the 'frustration' you're experiencing.... I have a big CG doing the same thing right now. Not growing any higher, but no flag leaf either! I'm afraid it will send out a flag leaf and flower a week or two before frost.

Let's hope it holds off so I can store the stem and bring it out next spring for a quick bloom! I'll be doing that for sure with my other big CG stem since it isn't near blooming height but still too good to lose.

I'll measure both of my big ones tomorrow if I don't forget. Thanks for this information. I'll post the measurements in this thread.

Are the height measurements from ground to opening where the bud emerged from (in the midrib/petiole of the flag) or what?

Re: California Gold Bud ?

I measured from the ground to the base of the flag leaf. The bud hasen't come out yet.

Congrats Tony! I was hoping for a flower this year, but all I can do is wish for next year & look at pics like yours. You gonna have a "guess the fingers" contest?:)
Wow, 35 inch base!

Re: California Gold Bud ?

Thanks Patty. No contest this time around.

Looking good!

I measured my biggest right now- ~6.5 or 7 foot tall and 30" at the base.
