California Gold? Bay Area.

So, I'm thinking of planting some edible banana's here in NorCal (Just east of SF). I've read California Gold is supposed to be an edible variety that does well here. Trouble is - I can't seem to find anyone who sells them locally, or who will ship to CA.

I intend to leave them plant in the ground year round. (I Have a 4 foot overhang from the roof for extra protection, as well)
Are there any other edible types that will do ok here in my 9b zone?

Re: California Gold? Bay Area.

I have a red dwarf and a "blue java" (probably not a blue java but that's what it is sold as from Florida Hill), and both of them are doing just fine. I'm in San Jose and I've had both of them in pots outside through the winter and they've continued to grow, though slowly, likely because they're in small pots not because of the temperature.

I've heard some people say bad things about Florida Hill nursery, but I've ordered from them twice and done fine both times. I hope this helps.

Get a Dwarf Namwah instead. It has better tasting fruit than "California Gold", is more readily available, and similar cold tolerance.
