Re: Calif gold question
What was your question?
It looks like you had some old leaves that dried up and didn't free up to allow the new leaves to come through. Sometimes it's necessary to help cut them on the sides to allow the top to split apart. |

Re: Calif gold question
I'd stick by a rule Jon (pitangadiego) has often shared: If it's green, don't cut it. As long as it's green, it's producing food for the plant.

Re: Calif gold question
I probably have to appologize first...ok?...but my broken record saying has to do with,..."you guys gotta stop paying attention to the individual plant and it's problems"...what if you looked at 20 of the same type?
long term gardeners usually know (setting myself up here as an exposed expositor)...the individual plants do not tell the big story very often...many times the worms...the germs...the rain, whatever...are the reason for the anomaly... plant more...watch the average. ok,ok,...i have space to burn at my ranch in mexico,...but i think my thinking goes with science... |

Re: Calif gold question
my point...
you have an individual plant with an individual problem that can have a multitude of explinations for the said problem... your question had to do with which leaf to cut, and my reply had to do with a much larger issue...as, how could anyone know what's going on from only one example...? my mistake...i missed your question... "should i cut one off and which one should i cut?" |

Re: Calif gold question
When one of my plants have done that, it usually doesn't have good results and dies back to the ground or slows down so much that a pup catches up with it.

Re: Calif gold question
I agree with Sunfish. That thing happens to me once every great while. Everything comes out normal after cutting everything on top and unfurl by hand whatever leaf is stuck.
