Default Bunchy Top Virus Spread Through 5 Species

So is this true? According to a 2014 documentary, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gaMqJfH8yXE
40:21-40:57, bunchy top is spread all throughout musa, gingers, cannas, tumerics, and cardamom plants via aphids (most likely other organisms as well). Is this intraspecies threat real? Should we all be looking out for any 1 of these species spreading it to the other 4? After all, it's a 2014 documentary, but the narrator sounds like he knows his s***. As a banana novice, I ask your expert opinions. I know for a fact my cannas don't have bunchy top, but does this also mean the canna viruses (that many possess) can spread to banana plants? I mean, if one disease can spread to 5 species, can the canna virus spread to banana plants? If so, I'll destroy all of my cannas in a heartbeat. Nanas >>>>> cannas. If bunchy top can spread, can canna viruses also spread?? Thank you to anyone who posts!!!

I have also read that not only bunchy top virus but also cucumber mosaic virus can be spread from canna to Musa. I’m sure others can as well. A lot of Musa and even Tc in gene banks test positive for virus and other issues but as long as the plant remains healthy no symptoms appear. Keep your plants healthy so they can fight off any issues.

In my opinion the things you have to watch for is buying/importing from a tropical area where these problems exist! And things like nematodes, once they are in your soil they are there forever! A lot of problems are spread by water and not soil! So don’t think a soilless mix is 100% safe! TR4 is often spread by water!

We have an advantage of very few problems in our sub-tropical zones! Let’s keep it that way!

Sorry to be pedantic, but these are actually five different genuses rather than species. This is what makes this scary, jumping across genuses is a lot bigger of a leap than across species within a genus. Fingers crossed nobody here has to deal with this virus.

There's no bunchy top on the mainland, so I wouldn't worry about this.

Thank you for this. The video demonstrated the severity of water-spread diseases/pests and I am positive I'll never plant any garbage (AKA cannas.. lol) in the same soil. But it never hurts to be sure. I will destroy the infected cannas after this season. Currently spraying the f**k out of them with pesticides. At least want to see one good season with them before I send them to the pit in the movie 300. And I will always do safe canna quarantines from now on. Thank you so much.. bananas>>>most other plants I own. So obviously my attention goes to the nanas!
