Bummed 'Bout my Bananas
This winter kicked my derrière. Every nanner that I left out in the greenhouse and those planted in the ground are dead. My only survivors are one DC, two TT, and one SDC, all of which I brought indoors. I think I'm going to scale down my nanner habit since I don't have many left.
Looking on the bright side, I have a bumper crop of pineapples for some odd reason.

Re: Bummed 'Bout my Bananas
Too bad about your nanners, this winter took its toll on everyone. Your pineapples are doing amazing though. Did you plant them all at the same time? Hopefully you brought your DF inside the house....

Re: Bummed 'Bout my Bananas
The pineapples were planted at different times. I made cuttings of the dragon fruit. I left the large one in the greenhouse too. No room indoors. I have cuttings of Delight, Physical Graffiti, and two others that I am unsure of. The larger planting died.

Re: Bummed 'Bout my Bananas
Well I wouldn't count the 1st 2 out unless you dug them up and threw them in the trash already.. maybe not the 3rd too if it was mulched heavy..

Re: Bummed 'Bout my Bananas
Amantedelenguaje, I want to see how your fruit inside is doing???
Took this picture today at lunch time, Hope you don't mind if I post this here, got myself 3 pineapples, back right corner. Many Many seedlings started... Proof my basjoo still alive and curling out... Dwarf Red and Manzano still has a chance. Already planted my elephant ears, roses, lilies, lily pads, cattails some hostas, other blah blahs outside. Can only see about half of what's inside, but most of this stuff is begging for bigger pots or outside living! GH not even 1 year old yet so I'm still learning, but was lots of fun but work! Got more work to do. Er'body saying outside is safe now! |

Re: Bummed 'Bout my Bananas
I may have had a pity party a little too soon. I went out to my greenhouse to lament and guess what I found--a banana pup. Yippee!!! I'm glad my nanner didn't give up as easily as I did. I don't know what kind it is. It is either DC or Namwah.

Re: Bummed 'Bout my Bananas
As promised I have attached pics of what the weather did to my bananas. I covered them before the severe storm (hailstones) around beginning April (titled under hood). Then pics of after removing the hood and then pics again of when they were hit by the next storm last week! But they survived and possibly I will do my best to get bananas this year! check members gallery for pics or Banana Gallery - GardenBee Gallery

Re: Bummed 'Bout my Bananas
From what I have read nothing beats the taste of a home grown pineapple! When they ripen you will find the flavor far superior compared to those pineapples in the grocery store.
