brown around the leaf

Deal all,

I would like to take the opportunity to ask you a question:

I have a Dwarf brazilian and a Basjoo, and they in early growing stage (see pics in the gallery). They look ok, but around the leaf there is a "frame" brown.
Does that happen because I am watering too much or not enough?
What can be the cause?

Thank you in advance

Looks like a pretty healthy sword sucker to me. Just water it when it is dry at and below the surface a bit. Use well-draining soil also. If you do that, you should be fine. You are probably doing fine...if you were over/under watering, it would look much worse.

Thanks guys!!!
I am probably overprotective with it, like a mother with her first-born child!! :ha:

It is unbelievable that they are growing so much in the coldest months of the year! It seems to see them growing live!!!

Anyway, thank you so very much for the assistance.

Lorenzo

Just a warning...don't kill your plant with love! I've seen it a hundred times....it's great to give a plant adequate care, but sometimes they do better if left alone a bit. I've seen stories on here of several people who dug a plant up suspecting corm rot only to discover the corm was fine...and then the plant dies because of existing problems exacerbated with the stress of being uprooted.

Don't worry about it... happens to all and sometimes much worse indoors during winter. Looks like a nice healthy plant.

Re: brown around the leaf

Thanks guys for the replies.

Seriously though, you can't see it well by the picture, but as I said it has a perimetral brown crown around the leaf. I have thought that it might be overwatering issue, because I have a kentia (palm) that gets brown at the top of the leafs when overwatered... so, that's why I asked.
Although my "method" for watering is to stick my finger in the ground, and if it is dry at the second knuckle I give them 2/3 glasses of water....so far has worked out well.

By the way, when is it the best time to begin to fertilize them? I have contacted few fertilizer supplier and they suggested me the "6-8-18 supreme" from TIMAC AGRO...do you know it? Is that good, considering that I have a Dwarf Brazilian and a Basjoo?
