Default Braziian VS Apple

I ran into an old friend this weekend at the farmers market and noticed he had a Banana for sale. He said it was a Brazilian and that the fruit was the best he has ever had. He also said they grow to about 20 feet in the Venice Beach area which suffers from coastal marine layer especially in the summer months. Now I'm pretty sure he meant the total height to the tip top of the leaves. After looking at pitangadiego's web site I noticed he doesn't say anything about a Brazilian that size. There are the dwarfs and the tall type that can block a third story window. I'm just wondering if my friend really has a Brazilian or something else and has anyone tasted the difference between Apples and Brazilians?

Momoese,

Both my Brazilian and Apple (Manzano) are quite tall, but the trunk is not 20' on either - maybe 20' to the tip of the leaf. The Brazilian is a good banana. The Apple so far has been disappointing - it doesn't have much size. The Apple was also one of the few that seemed to have leaf problems (tangling) when "over" fertilized - seeming to grow too fast.

My Fhia17s are getting ripe, and they are quite good, with a thicker peel, like a store banana, an thus easy to peel. 20 hands in the bunch. It will be a keeper.

I have a dwarf brazilian that fruited at 7 1/2 feet...that was the top of the PS. Am still waiting for the fruit to ripen, but I tried it at Going Bananas and absolutely loved the taste. It was one of my first bananas I planted last year.

My Dwarf Brazilian are going to be late due to the prolonged winter. Whatever blooms there might be this year would go to waste.

Remarkably, in Hawaii, they call Brazilian banana as Apple banana.
