Default Bordelons!

This past week has been busy out in the garden! Got two nice pups of Bordelon Bananas from Cincinnana. It all worked out where we were able to meet in person and not have to worry about damage/stress from shipping. He also threw in a bunch of his homemade activated charcoal and organic fertilizer to help the nanners settle into their new home

E80787D2-B3DF-41AE-8860-08F5C6A83ED6.jpeg

These first two pics were when I first got them home and the roots were very well developed. Separating the pups was easy, just used my old kitchen knife to cut down the middle between the two p-stems

Homemade charcoal, the bag was damn near bursting at the seams but I forgot to take a picture until I had already used some.

Potted up the little voodoo lily until I can figure out a forever home out in the garden.

This plant had a cigar leaf that was just about open when I got it and is already shooting out a new one

And this one will probably be ready to unfurl by tomorrow as long as this crazy Claudette wind chills out soon

Awesome. Mine don't look so good. Ever since a couple flowered in 2019 it's been downhill. They keep coming back but just aren't flourishing. It makes me sad.

I wonder why?

You should post some pics, maybe someone can provide some input.
It looks like your other bananas are doing just fine from your other posts

I'll start one and not crash this thread. They aren't sick looking per se, just don't want to get big and full like they did before flowering. I have given away quite a few pups that didn't want to make it as well. not sure what's up with them.

I think maybe 1 out of 6 have. I've even tried starting some here and no go. I did get one to pop up from a small piece of corm and it's looking really good. I may start fresh with that. One thing about them they will multiply like rabbits. Be ready for that as I'm sure you were told.

I had a great hand off of my plants to robertico18.
I gave the forum member .........stuff to make the plant successful in their garden.

From the looks of the garden getting the plants ...they will be in good hands.

Plant hand off should be this easy.
Gardners are amazing.....
Thank for being a good buyer

Next handoff willl be in the low country...
And Northern Michigan in 60 days>

UPDATE!

Not even a year later and they have their first flower emerging!

I guess I spaced out and didn’t notice the flag leaf and just saw the little pink tip protruding. I was surprised because the plant has roughly 5.5-6ft of pstem and I thought they would get a little taller.

Here’s a pic from a few steps back just to give a better idea of size

Still gotta get that mulch spread around and waiting for some ginger plants to sprout out of their pots so I can plant them in between rows of bananas, and then I think I’ll be done messing with it for the season…I think lol

You gave me one, and I do agree with you. Mne is still growing fine, but it is smaller than other specimens of Bordelons I have seen. It wont grow taller than 4 feet, and the leaves are shorter too.

I've tried everything and I get just about what you do. I need Cincy to make a house call.

For years I was fighting with two varieties doing the samething no matter where I planted them. Get a soil test done. I did that and watered them heavy and that fixed the issue. Didn’t effect the other bananas or plants around them so certain ones are picky I guess.

Excellent advice. However, I have already done that, and add back in the minerals and other components missing from the soil. Florida is notorious for having poor soil, and it is real important to do that here if you want continued success. I think its the specific type, and could be the result of improper tc practices. Thst is my personal opinion.
