Update: April 13, 2020

There were a total of six hands but since i only had one decent leaf I pruned off five leaving me with one hand to hopefully make it to maturity so that I can taste the fruit. The bananas are a bit blue but not the vibrant turquoise blue as some photos posted up. Took a couple weeks for the bananas to turn blue. Maybe they will get a darker color with more time.

What do you guys think? Real deal or fake deal?????

The one remaining hand on my Blue Java has turned black and shriveled up. I guess there was not enough power to develop the hands after a windstorm damaged the one good leaf mid to late April.

That's a disapointment but I have four pups to continue the saga. Probably relocate the biggest to my main patch and leave one in the new patch.

I think I got enough to get a positive ID which is an accomplishment. If anybody doubts its a Blue Java, please comment. Thanks!

Hey at least you got to see some for ID! That's a shame it only had one leaf to work with.. let me know if you ever want to sell any pups.. I would certainly take the trip over to see your setup first hand! Thanks!

I'm sorry to say it but they don't look like real Blue Java to me. Maybe they will get more blue with time. When they ripen up you will be able to tell for sure. The flesh of the fake Blue Java and the real Blue Java are is very different.

What is this "fake blue java" you are referring?

Most Blue Javas sold on the internet end up being Namwa.

They look like real Blue Java to me. Don't think the level of "blueness" is really a definitive indicator. And I know various mutations and environmental conditions can change these things, but it also looks like the "stem" connecting the fruit to the peduncle is longer than just about any Namwah I've seen.

It seems to be popular to call anyone's blue java (real or not) a namwah.

I don't know why, but to me they don't look like Blue Java. Besides the color they don't look right. But I could easily be wrong. I don't know if they look like Namwa or not. I haven't fruited Namwa in a long time. Time will tell.

They for sure aren't namwah.. I have a pup that ive fruited twice from Akulas strain.. My first bunch had more blue color than my recent fall bunch.. but the first rotted becasue of only having 2 leaves, and my fall bunch lets just say I ruined.. the hands connection to the peduncle has individual knuckles. The flower, the purple at the base of the new fingers.. everything is consistant with blue java. I think the depth of "blue" is environmental dependant.

Blue Java Update- 23 days after last female flower opened

The bunch seems to adding a white waxy coating to the fingers over time which infuences the color. The waxy coating also gives the fingers a very smooth suface which is interesting. The color to date is not what I would call blue. I cannot find any comments or reports about how long it takes for the fingers to attain a definitive blue color other than that fingers showing blue are substantially filled which would imply maybe month 3 or so.

I'll update again in about three weeks or so.

Thanks! Starting to get some color finally. I'll post up another update in a couple weeks.

TS Claudette snapped my primary 2021 Blue Java in half but I had this one as a backup pup. Didn't expect it to fruit this year but with all the rain we had this past summer growth was outstanding. I have three namwas that emerged in June and are already 12' tall!
