Belle new leaf is 25% larger, normal?
Just wondering if this is significant, or not. The Belle pup that I got from Matt in San Diego, has been putting out new leaves right along. All were about the same size once they opened. Then today, BAM!!! - a new leaf that is at least 25% longer and broader than all previous leaves. I have fertilized them recently and they are on regular drip irrigation, but is this an anomaly, or a portent of something yet to come? (You know where I am headed with this, right - I want to think that blossoming is right around the corner)
Perhaps it is just becoming more established in the container and the roots are developing from the fertilizing and water, but this leaf was so much larger than all of the others, I thought I would ask the experts. I will post a photo later this evening to show exactly what I mean. |

Is this in a pot or now in the ground?

Re: Belle new leaf is 25% larger, normal?
I often see this in young plants that acquire lots of new root space, such as when TC plants are transferred from vessels to pots and again from pots to the ground, after about 1-3 leaves, there is a huge jump in leaf size.
Sometimes I see pups do this too after they have well established root systems and are pushed hard with fert, water and sun. A TC plant I just transferred from the vessel to a small container had 2in leaves, the first leaf made after being potted was then about 4in, and the next after that is about 7in. There is definitely an easily recognizable correlation between root capacity and leaf size.

Re: Belle new leaf is 25% larger, normal?
Okay, that was the point of my question, wondering if the banana suddenly had more room for growing which is the case in that large pot. I got mine from Jon and it's growing very vigorously in the ground.
