Default Beautiful aeae variegated bananas recieved

Hi everyone-

Well I can say joining this forum was the best thing I could have done to fulfill my quest for variegated bananas- especially the aeae.

I can’t say enough good things about the wealth of knowledge and amount of great information worth researching here.

That said- I reached out to several members, as a new member, and was given great advice from many sources pointing to a member here that is absolutely a joy to work with and has so many varieties - I have to say I was completely blown away.

I reached out to PR-Giants- and he was very receptive to what I was looking for, with examples of all kinds of rare variegated varieties including the aeae I initially had sought out.

Keith provided me with some absolutely sound advice on how to plant them, especially the key substrate needed and how to investigate the rhizome. He even helped me with a recently purchased Florida variegated plant I had bought off eBay from another seller-which arrived looking great but the rhizome was black - I learned from Keith how to shave it back and inspect it, and glad I did, as it had a lot of soft black, dead material on it. We cleaned it up and it’s repotted in the right substrate now. I marked the petiole on that plant after replanting and it has already moved quarter of an inch.

Now back to the beautiful aeae plants I ordered from Keith and just recieved-

They all arrived in perfect shape, considering they were in transit for four days, and are now settling into their pots and new home. I am absolutely ecstatic and over the moon with the quality/health of their roots and rhizome, not to mention the marvelous variegation on them! I opted for a mixed bag of sizes. Keith even threw in a blue java to boot! I will continue to post up their progress with growth as the time progresses through this winter.

I can’t wait for the next box and more of his remarkably wonderful varieties of rare bananas!!

Thank you-
Geoff

Very nice plants you received. Keith doesn’t ship to Southern California but he ships to Northern California? That is strange.

Thanks for all the kind words, you really made the deal easy and enjoyable.

You've got bunch of aeae, both variegated namwa types so far and I still have to send a box of florida and some other cultivars that might help if you ever decide to start breeding bananas.

If you want anymore aeae tossed in just ask.

Thanks again and I'm really looking forward to following this thread.

Bill, I've shipped hundreds of variegated bananas to Southern California but now I'm more focused on supplying distributors which I know ship into Southern California. There's no shortage of variegated bananas in the US and so when I do retail sales now I try to select the ones that appear to be easy and enjoyable.

Not every sale is going to work out and that's just how things go sometimes. There was a member that had a way of getting bananas into Canada and I really wanted to send hundreds of variegated bananas their way but nothing ever came of that and I just moved on.

But there are legal ways of getting around them, where in Canada are you located?

The next box includes,

3 - Variegated Florida 'AA'

2 - Kokopo / Patupi 'AA'

1 - Veinte Cohol 'AA'

2 - French Red plantain 'AAB'

It's going to be very interesting to follow how these 'AA' diploids grow in Northern California.

Banana plants made it through last winter and the mild summer we had here-

Despite all the smoke this summer from the forest fires surrounding Northern Ca - Keith-s (PR-Giants) banana plants really brought joy to our garden and continue to thrive-

I cant say enough good things about his plants - I am certainly glad I was fortunate enough to make his acquaintance here. The amount of knowledge he has been willing to share and the quality of his rare banana plants are priceless in my book. My kids approve as well!! Thank you Keith-

Geoff

Hi pr-giants
Good morning sir,
I am located in Canada, i have been looking extensively for a rhizome of variegated banana but wasn't able to find it in Canada, will it be possible that i can buy it from you, if yes let me know the cost and shipping to Canada. We are just a young couple who are trying to grow all tropicals in our backyard experimenting with palms tropical flowers and fruit so far it has been successful with no supplemental heat, but for variegated banana i ld definitely build a small green house.
Thanks
Shiva
